Successful Street Dance Fundraiser
Our town has not had a street dance in years, so my Kiwanis Club thought it would make for a great fundraiser. It was a joint effort with our local Chamber of Commerce.
We ended up booking the Rumbles as their genre of music usually attracts all age groups. It did involve a lot more planning than I anticipated (ie getting the okay with the state to shut down Main Street, lining up flat beds and security guards), but small towns seems to breed good volunteers.
So I was in charge of the porta-potties. Oh, and the food. Neither of which made us any money. All of the money to be made is in the alcohol. And I must agree that the Bacardi Silver Raz’s in the plastic bottles are quite good.
We got a little nervous about the weather, but bought rain insurance just in case. Luckily it was a beautiful night and a fun time was had by all. Plus we made a profit! Yeah!
